3 Things Successful People Do by John C. Maxwell (Book Review)

Disclaimer: John C. Maxwell is my favorite author of all time!

With that out of the way, I’ll give you a bit of background on how I literally stumbled across John’s work…

Justin literally demanded that I stop reading all the ‘fluff’ I was spewing at him a few years ago and told me to read ‘Winning With People by John C. Maxwell‘. I had noticed John’s books in the book stores for years but never took action and picked one up….I finally did after Justin’s recommendation and that one book got me hooked. And since reading Winning With People I’ve been nose deep in a new Maxwell book almost every month.

If you don’t believe me, here’s my collection…(Missing from that pic is Winning With People & 5 Levels of Leadership)

So last week I’m in the book store (like I am every week) and saw a new Maxwell title that I hadn’t noticed before…3 Things Successful People Do…I ended up buying it and thought it would be a good refresher on some classic John C Maxwell teachings.

That’s exactly what this book is as there is a lot of stuff that is quite familiar to any Maxwell fan. This was a great refresher on the aspects of personal growth, leadership and developing your reason why!

The book is broken up into 3 parts which go along with the title;

1. Knowing Your Purpose

2. Growing To Your Maximum Potential

3. Sowing Seeds That Benefit Others

Each one of these parts hit on exactly what John teaches! Knowing your purpose really focused on coming up with your reason why and setting your goals the right way. I absolutely loved the second part of this book because it reminded me so much of my favorite Maxwell book ‘15 Invaluable Laws of Growth‘ – A must read by the way! And finally it ended with the journey you are taking and the people you want to bring with you. The end goal of your success journey is always to develop more leaders…

Like I mentioned before I’m a huge John C. Maxwell fan and as you can see, it had me writing down notes in my journal for a solid afternoon….

Again, this was a collection of thoughts from John’s top selling books into one short and easy to read format. At around 200 pages long, even the slowest reader can get through it pretty quick. And John’s writing style is filled with awesome quotes to hammer his point home as well as real life experiences that bring the reader into his world of leadership and growth.

All in all, this was a fantastic read and a very welcomed refresher about the importance of personal growth, having a very strong purpose and bringing the right people on your journey with you!

    To me 1 and 3 go hand in hand in my opinion. The long, hard road begins with #2. I think this is where most people begin to lose heart. This is a good Sunday morning post. πŸ™‚

        1. Nice, thanks for that. I’ll keep it in mind. I know he goes over the same topics a lot in his books, and knew about the pocket versions of this bigger books…But no idea some of it was the same book just a different title.
