How To ‘Deal’ With People? [VIDEO]

Human beings. People. We come in all different shapes and sizes. We come from afar, and we come from next door. We have different dreams, life experiences and backgrounds. We have different beliefs and different cultures…

Let’s be honest….We can be a handful!

But throughout all our differences, some things…Are universal.

Some things that make us human, bring us together and we share some very similar traits. Our goal as entrepreneurs and online marketers is to understand these similarities and ‘deal’ with them. Let’s look at what makes us so VERY human;

1. We All Want To Feel Worthwhile
– No one wakes up in the morning and says, you know what I don’t want to make any contribution to my family, to society or to the planet. We all want to feel like we are a part of something. Knowing this, allows us to become better leaders for our teams and customers. Making someone feel like they are worth it, can change not only their day but yours as well.

2. We Also Respond & Need Encouragement – I always like to share the story of how when I first got started some of the people closest to me told me to give up. Stop trying to build an online business. And go get a real job. But then I found an inner circle of great people that encouraged me to fulfill my dreams and work towards my goals of working from home full time. Guess what? That worked a whole lot better than the group that was telling me to give up. Encourage each other, re-read Day One of Plus 1 Success because that’s the best thing you can do every day…Raise someone up and encourage them!

3. We Are Naturally Motivated To Grow – Think about it. We generally want to do better than they did the day before. We want to be better at sunset than we were at sunrise. Encourage growth. Encourage what motivates your teams and networks. You’ll be blown away at the response you get when people feel like they are growing, daily.

4. We Buy Into The Leader First, Everything Else Second
– Want to get more people upgrading in your downline? Make sure you stay upgraded. Want more blog comments? Make more blog comments. Want people to be fired up for your training? Be more fired up for your training. It’s all in your control because everyone wants to be inspired and motivated from what they see. So become more, and you’ll attract better people. That old Zig Ziglar quote keeps playing in my head: “When you help enough people get what they want, you’ll get everything you want!” People before profits…Always!

5. And The More We Understand Each Other, The Better – Jeffrey Gitomer once said “All things being equal, people do business with people they know, like and trust. All things not being equal, they still do business with the people they know, like and trust. Want to get folks to know, like and trust you more? Start to understand them better. Ask questions. Serve them. Add value to their lives and businesses. This is a people business first. Remember that and the sky’s the limit for what you do and become in life.

  1. Oh yes, So true but at the same time so many people are thinking about the sale first and not the person. I call my prospects who leave their number on my website for more info. So today I called this guy to let him know how this opportunity I had could really improve his life etc. Next thing I know he is trashing the business model telling me how much it sucks because he failed and then casualy tells me hey it’s your lucky day because I have something to show you (I’m like wait a minute, this guy shows interest in what I’m doing but now says how much he dislikes it). No wonder the guy is a failiure, definetly not a future 7 figure earner. He probably thought he was being smart but I just think it’s wrong to pretend you are interested in a business model or person and then run the concept into the ground before pitching his own business. Some people are just more crazy and desperate than others I guess. Maybe I should send him the link to this blog. But you know what I think I’ll just let him cook and continue struggling simply because of his sneaky brilliantly stupid attitude. Thanks for another great blog post +1 every day!

    1. Thanks Paul…Oh yeah man, everyone is an expert, just ask them lol It’s part of ‘ego’ I think, and no one hates just admitting, hey I need help.

But that’s what separates guys like you from the flock. A simple exercise like adding your phone number…Is huge.

Don’t get too discouraged about the negative nancies, just keep providing awesome value!

  2. This entire blog and video is absolutely spot on!! I can remember back in the early 2000’s, how tough it was dealing with adversity and hearing things from people close to me say things like “you need to get a real job” or “all you do is play on line” or “why don’t you go back to school if you enjoy learning so much”. I did go back after 16 years and obtain my Bachelor’s Degree. I also had to overcome some pretty severe obstacles. I have continued to pursue my goals and dreams. I believe wholeheartedly in the importance of never allowing anyone or anything to steal your dreams. No matter what the adversity, FOCUS and Determination remains the key. I have found it has all only made me stronger and given me an even greater ability to understand and communicate with others. Each day I continue to surround myself with like minded individuals online. Those that believe in team work; sharing each others strengths; and encourage and support each other through times of weakness. Thanks Jon, for continuing to put yourself out there daily and share your experiences.

    1. Amen to that Vicki. And that’s the huge nugget right there, everyone goes through the ‘you need to get a real job’ speech. The biggest thing is what you said…Focus and determination. Huge impacts on those that truly find success. Thanks for the comments 🙂

  3. The greatest value you can give is teaching people something that you know about and letting people know that you care – even when you may not agree with them on things. Being a teacher of things is not as simple as it may seem because some are not so good at explaining the things they know how to do.

Sharing knowledge has a humble side that we sometimes miss. Sometimes we feel certain things are “common knowledge” but there is always someone doesn’t know – and we should consider it an “honor” to help them understand it. Even when we might “ruffle someones feathers” it can bring out the passion in folks if they respond in the correct way.

Fighting words for the Entrepreneur are “You can’t do it,” Makes us try that much harder and drives us to learn all we can from anyone willing to teach us and then to apply what we know.” The coolest thing about that is we can do that according to the person that we are.

I have come to deal with all kinds of folks in this industry and have learned and continue to learn so many things. CTP has been an outstanding catalyst for that. I have come to understand others and they have come to understand me and in the end we all grow in some way.

Outstanding post and video Jon. You have taught me a lot over the years – even when you sometimes rub me the wrong way 🙂 Keep it up dude, cause I wouldn’t have it any other way. It makes you who you are. At the end of the day you admit your mistakes and keep sharing your wealth of knowledge that you always admit comes from others.

Thanks for encouraging us all to Plus 1 Daily!

  4. Oh yeah, understanding people in our business (and in general) is very important, and often ignored. One thing I learned at the personal level is to listen first (I mean really listen!) and only then talk. This way we increase our chances of understanding the other person and respond accordingly.

I know a few people who are doing it the other way around: they are doing all the talking, as if there’s a contest of who talks more, louder or say more platitudes. And they wonder why people don’t like them.

Thanks for the book, Jon, I really appreciate it. Looking forward to hearing from you.
