Living Forward by Michael Hyatt & Daniel Harkavy [Book Review]

I have to admit something, I’ve been ‘drifting’ lately when it came to my reading habits. While I used to get through at least 2-3 books per week, I’ve found myself more interested in other things but this past weekend I finally said…Enough!

I am a big fan of Michael Hyatt’s first book Platform so when I heard he was releasing a new book co-authored by Daniel Harkavy I literally…Had to search my city for it.

After driving across town to a book store on the other side of Edmonton, I found Living Forward and started to dig right in.

Let me see if I can explain this….This is a short book to read but will take a lifetime to devour.

You see, Living Forward is about creating a ‘Life Plan’ which takes people from drifting through life into a focused plan for living their best.

It’s part self improvement, part time management but it’s ALL real world action steps where you become the author of you own life plan.

The book itself is broken up into 3 parts which are called Understand Your Need, Create Your Plan and finally Make It Happen.

Each section of the book has real life examples of Michael and Daniel implementing the plan along with their clients over the years. I loved the way they broke down the plan into what they call ‘Life Accounts’ and as a reader your job was to fill each account up with deposits and withdrawals. Using this money management model, life planning really made sense to me.

But when I say it’ll take a lifetime to devour, that’s the beauty of it. Even though you can read this book in a few hours, the real power of it won’t be felt until you put it into practice.

I’m actually booking a day off work this week to work on my life plan. Pretty odd to say this, but I feel like a kid on Christmas morning as I get excited for the journey that will be.

This book digs deep, and requires you to do some soul searching of your own…Heck they teach you to write your own eulogy, and while that may be a head scratcher at first…You see the immense power of that exercise as you progress.

All in all, Living Forward is a fantastic read. But I’m much more looking forward to writing and creating my own life plan from the techniques and tips within this book.

If you are looking to change your life and put it back on course, this is the book for you!
