What Are You ‘Sharing’ On Social Media?

Social media has been arguably the biggest game changer for the planet since…Well, sliced bread?

O.K., maybe it’s a little bit more important than sliced bread but the point being, the social media revolution has changed the way we all communicate and do business.

We have the ability to connect with people from around the world, 24-7-365 and build relationships with folks from every part of the planet. That’s a very exciting thought for marketers and business people, the ability to share your message with the world…Without having to pay some crazy ad firm millions of dollars to do so.

It’s all about relationships and social media has put the human connection on the top of mind of everyone trying to make a name for themselves online. I read some crazy stat the other month where the average human being has a network of about 125 people in their ‘circle’. Which means, essentially, you can influence and get your ‘message’ across to around 125 simply by….Updating your status ๐Ÿ™‚

Obviously, that’s just an average but the point is…You have the power to influence a lot of people.

So the question then becomes..What are you sharing with those people?

I cringe when I check out my Twitter feeds or Facebook walls because it’s usually filled with…War. Bigotry. Hatred. Racism. Negativity. And of course…Everyone’s favorite topic…Politics.

It’s just…Angry posts and status updates everywhere you turn.

Now here’s something to think about….

What happens if you have your friend ‘Jill’ on your Facebook friends list. She’s having a rough day. And just upset at the world. Jill logs into Facebook and starts scrolling down her Facebook feed and then sees you arguing with someone on the other side of the political spectrum.

The negativity kinda rubs off on Jill. And she may or may not start continuing the trend of posting something negative on her wall…

Sure, that may not be the case all the time but imagine if she sees your update and it’s….Dare I say…Positive?

You shared a cool quote. A funny video. An inspirational post. A link to a live seminar. Something that might get Jill out of her funk.

Will this work all the time? No, but you know what? It’s YOUR decision what you share on social media…Why not share something positive and be the CHANGE you want to see in the world yourself.

You never know who is watching and you never know who you may inspire….

  1. It is imperative we all look at how best to portray our business, and ourselves, on social media. We should be, as Jon said, the ‘positive’ influence people want.

Remember that EVERYTHING you post can, and will, be referenced when people are researching doing business with you. Make sure they find the image you want them to see.

    1. I learned the hard way, to not b so…’angry’ in the online world. We can choose negative or positive, I choose to put out positive messages from now on ๐Ÿ™‚

    2. That all depends if you’re trying to convince people to give up their freedom
or trying to convince people to defend your freedom from those who trying to take it.

  2. I do agree. I also think that we are part of what is posted online. We have to take responsibility for what we choose to write or say. Negative people justify themselves with reality. The fact is, you see what you are looking for. So, if you think reality is all negativity, then thatโ€™s what youโ€™ll find.

    1. Yeah man, agreed completely. Like attracts like and I just feel that if we project negativity in the world, it comes right back and bites us in the rear end. Might as well be positive. Much better vibes ๐Ÿ™‚

  3. Jon, What a bout Jill?

Not going to pander to the low info liberal that has been brainwashed.

You may not want to be involved in politics, but make certain politics
are going to be a part of your daily life.

    1. I will still have bills no matter who is in power. My last Prime Minister didn’t pay them and neither does my current one. Focus on things that you can control. I have no control over what your media or any politician does.

          1. Jon, why is you never have more than just a few that be counted on one hand, two hands the most that makes comments here?

  4. Its an interesting topic Jon, I’ve got a seperate FB account for business and I can recall at times going through my supposed “business” account where the people who are my friends there are all from business connections built over the last 4 to 5 years, and seeing just that – racist, hate and politicital statements. Where are all the cat videos? I need to start liking those pages more to brighten my day.

    1. Ha ha ha ha Amen to that.

Yeah I hear ya. It’s amazing the racist comments that have been popping up lately. Lots of hate being spewed.

I like you, prefer to focus on the fun and positive stuff. Plenty to keep us entertained doesn’t need to be negative and hate filled.

    2. Leone,

If you want to know what’s really going on, just watch the short video
      on youtube. UN HRC 1618

Majority of the public has never heard of it
