eSports…The Answer For More Adoption In Crypto?

Blockchain nerds and crypto currency fan boys are a unique group of people!

We are putting our faith into technology that requires a PHd in computer science to explain. And little imaginary bits of information that we’re labelling ‘currency’. What a ride it’s been right 🙂

But the longer I’m involved in these technologies and industries, the more bullish I become….

One of the biggest issues we have when it comes to crypto is actual real world adoption. STEEM is very unique because we use this stuff every day but the big bulk of crypto projects out there look fantastic on paper…But rarely have any real world use case.

That’s where eSports comes in.

WTH is eSports?

Here’s what Wikipedia defines it as:

“Esports (also known as electronic sports, e-sports, or eSports) is a form of competition using video games. Most commonly, esports takes the form of organized, multiplayer video game competitions, particularly between professional players and teams….”

Yup, professional video game leagues and competition. And if you are unaware, this is BIG business. Over half a billion dollars in 2016 and I’m sure it’s even higher today.

The younger generation might not be dreaming of becoming the next Michael Jordan….But a big chunk of them are thinking they could become the next ‘Ninja‘.

If you need anymore proof that eSports is MASSIVE business…Take a look at who is streaming tonight’s Thursday Night Football game for the NFL…

business

Twitch.tv is the largest platform where eSports has been growing. It’s a live streaming site that has essentially created the eSports movement. This is where streamers start their careers and grow their following. And it’s BIG big business…

Partnering with the NFL and giving the rights to stream their Thursday night games doesn’t just ‘happen’…The NFL knows that this is where a massive audience spends a big chunk of their time!

But what does that have to do with crypto?

It’s the perfect match!

Cryptocurrency has the potential to thrive in this environment.

These gamers already accept digital rewards (called ‘Bits’) from their audience and followers…If they reach partner status on Twitch (which isn’t as easy as signing up and pressing play), they get a revenue share of those ‘bits’ that are sold.

But imagine cutting out the middle man?

That’s where platforms like @vimm come in here on STEEM and projects around the crypto space are starting to take action…

Rewarding this new brand of athlete with…Crypto that they can actually use!

And this is where it gets really exciting for me…I see the marriage happening right now and huge relationship growth between both streamer and audience…Using crypto as the gateway!

Of course this is just one scenario in the massive potential of crypto as a whole…But it’s where I think STEEM could benefit as well. I’ve heard of some very exciting projects being built here on STEEM and with the success of @steemmonsters , it’s obvious that gaming is going to play a big role in the future of crypto.

Hey, maybe video games don’t excite ya lol

But the POTENTIAL is hard to ignore. We have an awesome blockchain here with a fantastic community…I would love to see @vimm and similar projects grow and become players in the booming eSports industry!
