Tell Them…10 Years! [VIDEO]

10 years seems like an awful long time doesn’t it?

I mean, it’s an entire decade after all. 120 months, 520 weeks, 3650 days! That’s quite an investment in time.

Here’s some interesting things to note:

Starbucks, arguably the most popular coffee brand on planet earth took 13 years to finally open their 5th store.

Wal Mart, the retail giant, didn’t cut the ribbon on their 2nd store for 7 years.

Kevin Hart, is not the highest paid comedian on the planet, earning more in 2016 than even Jerry Seinfeld…Has been working on his craft for 19 years.

And John Wooden, the legendary college basketball coach for UCLA, didn’t win his first championship title for 20 years.

There is a quote that I read by one of my favorite authors Jon Gordon and he stated this:

“When people ask me how long it takes ot become an overnight success…I tell them 10 years!”

10 years!

Again, not a flash in the pan at all. That’s some serious time to invest in a business, in yourself, in your dreams. But re-read some of the examples I wrote above, the power is in staying the course.

When your competition gives up after about a month or two, you are still there focused and growing your business. There is simply no better way to achieve success than staying the course and growing everyday. That’s what this whole Plus 1 brand is about, growing..Daily!

But the second part of that formula is this…Keep. Showing. Up!

Maybe you don’t want to become a comedian like Kevin Hart, or a coffee mogul like Howard Schultz of Starbucks, or even a coach like John Wooden. But you want to live YOUR dreams! You want to be a success in your chosen field. Well my friend, here it is…The truth. The reality!

Stay the course and show up every day!
There really is no greater game plan for success.

  1. That’s right Jon. It took even the Rock and Roll artist years of work before they became famous – most of them anyway like David Bowie. People didn’t even like his music at the very beginning. He had to start somewhere, and he didn’t become famous overnight. It was years before he became very famous because he worked at it so hard, and was very determined not to give up. Now I’m looking it up. He had an early career from 1962 – 1967. Then “Space Oddity” and “Hunky Dory” in 1969 ( the Apollo moon landing) – from 1968 -1971. Then “glam rock” 1972 – 1973 “Ziggy Stardust” and “Spider from Mars” which made him widely famous in 1972. That was 10 years! Then his music shifted with a sound called “plastic soul” with “Young Americans” and “Fame.” And he was famous for many years to come and even until his death he made his last album “Black Star” while dying from cancer. So there is a little history for you 🙂 I think we tend to think rock and roll musicians and other famous people became famous overnight like you say in your post. But look at all of those years of work he put in before he became famous. TEN YEARS! I forgot to mention he started playing the saxophone at age 13! That’s allot of work and dedication.

  2. Spot on…. I remember when I first got started with online marketing it was just a bit of fun and a way for me to learn new business skills, then I made some progress, lot’s of mistakes but that’s how we learn. The thing that kept me going was my desire to do better, be better and knowing that “Failure is not an option” reading books, listening to audios & watching videos definitely gave me the courage to “Stay The Course” I’m not yet where I want to be but I know I am progressing each day and if we can just learn to be better today than we were yesterday then we are moving in the right direction. Thank you Jon for another great inspirational and educational episode.
